About Minister Herzog:

 

Isaac Herzog, a lawyer by profession, has vast and diverse experience in the public sector, and a rich record of volunteer activities. During the years 1999 - 2001 he served as Israel's Government Secretary. From 2000 to 2003 he served as chairperson of the Israel Anti-Drug Authority.

 

In 2003 he was elected as member of the Knesset for the Labor party, and served in the Finance, Interior and Environment, and the Fight against Drugs committees. He also served as chairman of the Tourism, Youth and Municipal lobbies, and was a member of the Environment, and Advancement of Relations with Christian communities lobbies – as well as other Parliamentary lobbies.

 

In January 2005 he began his first term as a Minister in the Government of Israel. As Minister of Construction and Housing he initiated and led important reforms. From May 2006 he served as Minister of Tourism - where he successfully handled the tourism crisis that plagued Israel in the wake of the Second Lebanon War.  

 

In March 2007 he began his term as Minister of Social Affairs and Services, as well as Minister of Diaspora, Society, and fight against Anti-Semitism.

During his term as Minister of Social Affairs and Services, Herzog succeeded to bring advancement in many areas in accordance with his social-economic beliefs and values, including in:  finding a solution to the distress of holocaust survivors living in Israel, leading a national program for children and youth at risk, increasing allowances for the elderly, advancing a revolution in the field of the employment of disabled persons, leading a reform in the welfare services of the local municipalities, improvement of the services provided to citizens by the National Insurance Institute of Israel, and many more.

 

Isaac Herzog is the son of Chaim Herzog (Z"L) the sixth President of the State of Israel and Aura, who was the founder of the Council of Beautiful Israel, and the grandson of the first Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Yitzhak Isaac Halevi Herzog. He served as an officer in the Intelligence Corps, with the rank of Major. He speaks Hebrew, English and Arabic, and has published articles in leading newspapers and journals in Israel and abroad. He edited the book "What is the answer – Economic and Social Solutions for an Economy in Crisis ". He was born in 1960 in Tel-Aviv, is married to Michal and is the father of three.
